Dr. Tovian serves as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. As part of his academic duties, Dr. Tovian teaches courses on “Health Psychology In The Primary Care Setting” and “Psychopathology”. He is recipient of the Ivan Mensh Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Dr. Tovian served as Chief of Psychology at Evanston NorthShore for 8 years before entering private practice. His responsibilities included managing clinical, educational, and research activities of psychologists practicing within NorthShore University Health System’s network. During his tenure, Dr. Tovian led the development of novel credential and privileging mechanisms for psychologists on the Professional Staff of NorthShore University Health System network.
Dr. Tovian has authored two books, over twenty book chapters, and over fifteen scientific peer reviewed journal articles. He also serves on the editorial board of two professional psychology journals.
Selected by his peers and in recognition of his experience and achievements as a clinical and health psychologist, Dr. Tovian currently serves on the Commission for the Recognition of Specialties and Proficiencies in Professional Psychology (CRSSSP) of the American Psychological Association. This commission oversees, reviews, and approves specialties and proficiencies within the profession.
